“The freedoms we enjoy in America are due in great measure to our active military and veterans who proudly serve to protect our Nation. Our community, like all others across the United States of America, has had its fair share of individuals who have bravely served in our armed services.

Created in 2004, Veteran’s Memorial Park was constructed to honor the unselfish contributions of our courageous men and women who served in our nation’s military. The memorial bricks, located around the fountain honor many who have served, including some of the earliest settlers of Polk County and their descendants, with their names, years of service and their branch of service.

A special aspect of this park’s design is the display of our Nation’s flag, the Stars and Stripes, and flags representing the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines, and the POW-MIA (Prisoners of War-Missing in Action).

The Park’s stage is also home to regular musical events including Southern gospel singing groups who perform for the Columbus Fire Department Annual BBQ held during the days before the 4th of July.  Enjoy the peaceful setting in the Park any time. ”
