“Welcome to the Columbus First Baptist Church. This is Mary Ann Cansler wife of the church’s first pastor Alexander Jacob Cansler better known to his friends as “AJ”. My husband was pastor here from 1857 to 1861.
As you look at our church’s structure you can see there have been a few additions over the years. Our sanctuary is original and was constructed in 1857.
The Town of Columbus has the distinction of being the only planned municipality in Polk County. Unique to Columbus is its layout of the four corners. The original design designated that the four corners were dedicated for four churches. Today the Baptist, Presbyterian and Methodist churches sit on their original locations.”
